WAIMATE. The Mayor (Mr George Dsfih) presided at the monthly meeting of the W&imate Borough Council, there being also present: Cra. J. Atwill, G. l r . KlehardsOn, M. J. Corrigaa, T. W. Wylle, W. O. Paul, A. J. Kirby, A. 12. Lewis, and T. Twomey. The town olerk of Eltham forwarded particulars of a scheme for th<* purpose of relieving unemployment, and the development oI unoccupied lands in the Dominion. The letter asked the Council's consideration and support of the scheme. On the suggestion of the Mayor, It wafl decided ask the Unemployment Board to give consideration to the scheme. The Mayor suggested that the Council should procure a copy of the Unemployment Act, so that the Council could become conversant with its provisions. This was desirable in view of the fact that the Unemployment Board would have over £1,000,000 to spend, ond Walmate's share of this money should be a substantial amount. Mr Dash went on to say that he had been discussing with Mr Bitchoner, M.P., the matter of the formation of the pAper road leading from Haven's toad along the summit of the hills. The suggestion originally emanated from Mr O. Campbell, and the speaker considered It a good idert in that a valuable view would be opened up, and it wottld mean another attraction to the town. Mr Bitchoner had stated that work such As the formation of i this road was just what the Unemployment 1 Bo.ird was looking for and would welcome. Tho Water Committee reported that of fceven applicant* for the position, Mr G. Dunlop had been appointed caretaker of tho municipal baths. The Mayor reported on a section in Coronation street which was overgrown with broom, ond it was decided to notify the owners that Unlesfl It was cleared by the beginning of tiest year the Council would do the work at their expense. Mayor reported that when he had attended the reception In Titnaru to the Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe he had mentioned to hie Excellency that h$ was looking forward to hi* Excellency's presence at tho Jubille A and P. Show next year. His Excellency had said ha hoped to be In Waimate long before that. The speaker had later written explaining the hopes of the A. and t\ Association in regard to the jubilee Show, and that the Borotigh Council did not wish to do Other than co-operate.
