Water charged with radium may account for the big fish of the lake country near Pandash, in the Canadian province of Ontario. So investigators nave concluded, after visiting fisherman reported to have caught extraordinary numbers of 51b and larger bass. While the fishermen were delighted.'they were puzzled by the size of the abnormally developed fish. Tes-ts of the lake water of the vicinity, made at McGill University, in Montreal, show the water as strongly charged with radioactive maas are man y of the famous spas of Europe. Radium, like X-ravs. has been shown in laboratory testa to produce freak individuals in breeding anituals and plants, and it therefore thay r i cause of the remarkable run of large fish. America has 28,612,136 motor-cars, two and a half times as many as all the rest of the world put together. Europe has 4,649,793 motor vehicles; Australia and Oceania, 788,733; Asia 609,256; Africa, 319,365. Bermuda has twenty cars to its 20,410 population.

An amusing incident occurred recently at a largo secondary school for girls in Geneva. It was noticed that the girls had begun to arrive late in class, and the teachers became very disturbed at this lack of discipline. When they complained, however, the girls justified their late arrival by appeal to the largo clock adorning the front of the building, which always supported their contentions. Examination was made of the clock, and it was found that some sparrows had built nest between the hands, preventing them from moving properly. The fire brigade was called into action and the clock cleaned up. At the age of 79, Mr W. Tj. Wyllie. R.A., is finishing a great picture of the Battle of Trafalgar. He works in Portsmouth Dockyard, where an annexe haa been built for his special nsa.
