CITY STATUS.

INVERCARGILL CELEBRATION. (pmiss •.ssociiTiow uuoaui.) INVERCARGILL, November 26. A formal ceremony td celebrate the proclamation of Ihvercargill as a City was held in the entrance to th 6 Town Hall this afternoon. The Mayor (Mr J. J>. Campbell) presided over a large attendance which included members of the City Council and many ex-Mayors artd Councillors.. Speeches of congratulation were delivered by the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle (Minister for Internal Affairs), who represented the Government, and the Hbri. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C.. for many years representative ot Invercargill in Parliament and a former Mayor.

At the conclusion of the speeches the Mayor handed to the Mayoress a small golden key, with which she unlocked the doors covering ail inscribed stone set in the right hand wall of the entrance to the building.
