HOSPITAL BOARDS' CONFERENCE.
REMITS PROPOSED. When the time came,. ni • yesterday*® meeting of. the Hospital Board, for tabling remits for the conference of the Association of Hospital Boards at Timaru in February next, Mr H. H. Hoi land put forward two which occasioned mild surprise among members. They were:— (1) That (ho Conference supports legislation suspending the operations of the Arbitration Court for two years. (2) That the Conference supports a general reduction in the salaries and wages of its staffs. "I dd not wish to take the Board by surprise and have them discussed now," remarked Mr Holland. "Wo would be here all day," interjected ' Mrs E. McCombs. Mr Holland added that it would be best to discuss them at the next meeting. If they were not acceptable they could be thrown out. Mrs McCombs: Wo havo an appointment for one o'clock after next meeting; I think we had better postpone that. The remits will bo discussed at the next meeting. It was also reported that the Financo Committee proposed forwarding a remit asking that tho Government be approachod with a view to making the Hospital Board's debentures "trustee securities." The Public Health Committee proposed to forward a remit asking that the Pensions Act. ,may be extended to patienta in the tuberculosis institutions who have families dependent. The Benevolent Committee proposed bringing before the Conference the question of an alteration in the form of making application for ihe family allowance.
