Thero was a big attendance, but apparently the greater portion were onlookers. Competition was dragging, and with oue or two exceptions the trend of values was lower; in fact, the »alt appeared to be slipping throughout. Ewes and lambs were particular.}* hard to sell, oven at tbo reduced rates. The only bright spot in the market was for good forward wethers, end as there were several eensignraents from the Chatham Islands, well ap to this standard, they were responsible for realising values that appeared to be out of alignment with prices ruling in the fat rheep pens, but even in this grade, once you got away from the first-class article, a iiumber of the Chatham Islands consignments tailed to produce values anywhere within a comparison of the higher rates given for the ilrst-class article. The various pens of local wethers, and wethers from Marlborough ■were hard to quit, and many of the lots failed to be realised at auction. Oue or two consignments of wether hoirgots attracted very little attention, and were disposed of on!y at low prices. Several lines of dry ♦;wes recorded fair values. Belling from 12* .'2d to 15s 9d.
