SELWYN HOUSE SCHOOL
WORK COMMENCED. Tlio. contractor, Mr JL. A. King, has made a start with the construction of a, school for Selwyn House, in timber, in Papanui road, near Merivale lane. Its design is such that it will admit the maximum amount of sunshine. Throughout, swinging doors and Wlnt-. ney windows will be provided, tnakmg tile school almost of the open-air type. The floor space will be about S'~oo square feet. Already the kitchen and lavatory block has been covered in, and the school will be ready by Februarv. The approximate cost will be £2OOO. Tennis courts will probably be provided at a later date. Messrs and Hall are the architects. __
Fruit trees "made to order ' are ouo of the latest triumphs of research in horticulture. states the Auckland tXorl c 1 -'* Speaking to a gathering of fruitgrowers, Mr 11. Hatton. a visiting English expert, said that as a result of research work in England into stock grafting, it was now possibles to control the size and cropping power of apple, pear, plum and cherry trees. The trees could be purchased to grow in a certain space in much the same manner as a person purchased a hat for a certain sized head. Constant work was revealing . extraordinary things, to the research worker.
