(Received November 25th. 10.35 p.m.) MELBOURNE, November 25 There was tremendous interest in the trial of Richard Buckley, aged 67, a bootmaker, on a charge of the murder of Thomas Berriman, the bank manager who was shot dead on October Bth, 1920. Angus Murray was hanged in 192-1 for his part in this crime. The pol.ee arrested Buckley on September 30th last, under sensational circumstances.

The Crown alleges that he actually tired the revolver and stole a bag containing £lßsl, since when he had elt.ded arrest

Ihe Crown Prosecutor pointed out that Buckley in the meantime had grown a beard and a moustache, which had made identification by witnesses more difficult, and a request to Buckley's solicitor that Buckley should agree to lie shaved had been disregarded. Buckley had told the police that he did not know Murray, but admitted that he had been hiding for » number of years, tliough he had never boon out of the State. The trial is likely to last four days. Crowds waited from 6.30 a.m. to ga:n access to the Court.
