ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING OK COUNCIL. The annual meeting oi the New Zetland Council of the Royal Life-Saving Society was held last night. Mr G. E. Billson (president), delegate for Wanganui, presiding. There were also present —Messrs J. Jackson (Hawke's Bay), B. Brown (Manawatu), F. J. G lack in (Otago), F. T. Lawrence Scott (Auckland). In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, the president said that the report on the year's work was quite satisfactory. The financial position was sound. The report and balance-sneet were adopted. The election of officers lor the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President, Mr G. is. Billson; vice-president, Mr J. B. O'Neill; lion, secretary. Mr F. J. Lawrence Scott; hon. treasurer, Mr F. J. Glaokin; hon. auditor, Mr P. N. Quartermain; hon. solicitor, Messrs Johnston, Mills, and White. A letter was received from the Canterbury Head Centre stating that it would supX»ort the motion that the rule regarding the strength of surf ropes being a standard breaking of 4801b be deleted from the Council's rules.

The Wellington Head Oentre wrote object, ing to any mention of the breaking strength of lines being included in rules of competitions. The North Taran?iki Centre wrote stating that it was of the opinion that a professional man who saved a person from drowning should not be barred from competitions. Two remits were received from the Canterbury Head Centre for the annual conference in March. They were:— "Thnt it be a recommendation to the New Zealand Council to purchase a trophy for competition among all clubs and schools in New Zealand, the trophy to go each year to the club or school obtaining the greatest totnl number of points for awards." "That it be a recommendation to the Minister for Education to make swimming and life-saving compulsory for aH physically ft pupils in all schools where facilities exist.''
