At :i well-attended meeting of the Rotoruu branch of tho Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the following resolution was passed: "That this branch strongly protests 'n<i.'iilis>t the action of various Farmers' Unions and Chambers of Commerce in calling upon the Department to reduce the wages of the staff to enable produce and fertilisers to be carried at a cheaper rate. We feel that tho bodies concerned have very little knowledge o f t,le wages a "d conditions of tho bulk of our members, and deeply resent beiujg called upon to sacrifice wages to assist those who in most enses are a deal better of than our members.''
