UNITED BURGESSES.
MEETING OP COUNCIL. A meeting of tEe council of the Uuited Burgesses' Associations was held last evening. Those present were Messrs R. J. Ecroyd (chairman), J. Stewart, R. Carter, G. T. Baker, G. Lewis, E. R. Adcock, F. T. Bojce, J. E. Jones, D. W. Bartram, A.-A. Cornelius, T. A. Gates, and W. Moffat. A letter was received from the Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville) in answer to the council's communication forwaitling a copy of a resolution suggesting that in any future acquisition of land for cemetery purposes,' the Council should spread its favours to other districts.
"I am to inform you," wrote the Town Clerk, "that the decision to parchase further land in Bromley was arrived at after exhaustive enquiries and inspections were made of land in other districts. Properties offered for sale in other districts did not have soil which was as suitable as that in Bromley, it having been found that in most districts water was encountered within two or three feet.of the surface or the soil was of a shingly nature. Tha Cemetei ies' Act forbids the purchase of land Inside a city for cemetery purposes." It was agreed to ask the City Council to give particulars of the respective costs per annum of chipping the grass from streets up to the side-channels, and tar-sealing. It was decided to ask the City Council to have Hulbert 6treet, Lin wood, regraded and put in good ; order.
