CRYSTAL PALACE.
"HALF WAY TO HEAVEN." An interesting and by no means impossible story, told with a restraint and an eye for telling detail that make it all the more con* vincing, good acting and photography that are a constant delight, together with dialogue that varies from humour to melodramatic intensity, but is never superfluous, combine to make "Halfway to Heaven," at the Crystal Palace Theatre this week, an entertainment that should not be missed. The leading roles are taken by Charles (Buddy) Rogers, and Jean Arthur, who both carry off their parts very well, but the of the picture is not due to the stars, it is the outcome of good acting on the part of all who come into the story, and more than anything to the producer, George Abbott, who has shown that experience witlf the legitimate stage is the surest way to save the films from the banalities that so often afflict them. The story concerns the jealous love of one member of a troupe of trapeze artists for the girl who, because one youth has dared to become too friendly with her, has let him fall in the midst of a performance. The remainder of the story reveals the way in which t!.e girl falls in love with his successor, and the way iu which he escapes a similar fate . , The supports include an interesting ne-ws-reel including some good scenes of the Davis Cup matches, a musical sketch, and a comedy.
