In some of the Canterbury schools the" proficiency examination was commenced yesterday, but the majority will bold it on November 28th. It was at firgt proposed the examination should be a uniform one, and that in the larger schools papers should b® marked bv the teachers, and then Bent to the senior inspector for verification. It will now be conducted on the same lines _#s in nreyious years. The examination will bo j n written form, and in 6©me cases it will be supervised by an inspector, while in others this work will be performed by th« head teacher.
