STAND-BY PLANT.

SITE AT LYTTELTON. [THE PEESB SpecUl S»rvice.j WELLINGTON, November 22. The Minister for Public Works (the Hon. W. B. Taverner) haa decided that tlie new stand-by plant which is to supplement the power supply from Lake Coleridge shall be situated at Lyttelton. The Minister states that one of the principal factors governing the decision was the transport of crude oil supplies, and satisfactory arrangements had been made for tankage at the port. The Department has its own pole line over the Port Hills, and supplies of new copper conductor for the double circuit feeder have been arranged. The Minister is unable to indicate the exact site, pending completion of negotiations with the Harbour Board. He added that the adoption of Lyttelton would enable the whole scheme to be completed at a minimum capital cost.
