GI6BORNE, November 23.
At the inquest into the death of John Francis Hills, aged 45, -whose body was found on Waikanae Beach, the evidence showed that Hills was a returned soldier of Ruatoria who had been suffering from shellshock. Ten ■ weeks ago he was married, and after returning from his honeymoon had lived for just over a fortnight in a new bungalow ho had built on his property. Then the husband and wife woke up one night to find the place in flames. The furniture and wedding prosents were all destroyed. This, combined with shellshock, resulted in a depressed state of mind, and the Coroner returned a verdict that Hills died "from a gunshot wound in the chest, self-inflicted whilst in a state of acute mental depression.
