KETCH LAUNCHED.

CEREMONY AT REDCLIFFS, The launching of the largest vessel built in the locality for many years took place at Redcliffs on Saturday aftetnoon. This was a ketch-rigged auxiliary cruiser of 40ft over-all, designed and built by Mr E. G. Andrews. The ceremony was witnessed by a small gathering of friends, and the crew was composed of Messrs Andrews, It. Hampton, I. Treleaven, and P. M. Williams. Mrs Treleaven duly christened the boat. Mr Andrews laid down the vessel's keel in May last year. She is constructed of kauri, is oak-ribbed, with a keel of Australian ironbark, and possesses a four-cylinder, forty horsepower Thorneycr'oft petrol engine, _ developing eight knots. Her principal dimensions are:—Length, 40ft over-all; beam, lift 9in; draught, 4ft 2in. The vessel has a 40ft Oregon pine mast, 800 square feet sail area, and Oft 2in head room in saloon. Fully loaded, the boat displaces 10 tons. She can carry 40 gallons of petrol and 60 gallons of water, with provision for extra tanks. Tho saloon has accommodation for five passengers, and there is a two berth cabin forward. The cockpit is of the I,elf-emptying type. The official trials of the ketch will take place in a month's time.
