Messrs L. .Young, .C. Wright, and S. Jones were among the arrivals from the north by the ferry steamer Yesterday morning. Mr A. S. Paterson, Captain A.. V. Hale Monro, and Mr Warwick Gregory, Wellington manager for the Commonwealth' and Dominion Line, are due from Wellington this morning. Mr M. P. W. Blathwayt returned from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr A. S. Cookson, secretary of the Otago Employers' Association, passed through CUristchurch yesterday on his return from Wellington, where he attended the annual meeting of the New Zealand Employers' Federation. The lie v. Father James Gilbert, of Sydney, the Bev. G. Rudd, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church, and Sir Harold Beauchamp, a director of the Bank of New Zealand, left Auckland for Wellington last evening. A welcome back to the Council table of the Heathcote County Council was extended to Messrs W. W. Scarff and J. F. Scott last evening. Both members had been absent from Council meetings on account of illness, and the chairman, Mr J. h. Banks, expressed the pleasure of Councillors that they were recovering.

At a gathering of members of. the Blenheim Produce Merchants' Association and other mercantile interests a presentation was made to "Mr A. E. Hobbs, president of the Association, who is leaving Blenheim shortly. In handing Mr Hobbs a substantial cheque, Mr N. G. Parker (vice-president of the Association) expressed very deep regret at the recipient's departure. During his residence in Blenheim he had not only taken a keen interest in the affairs of the Association, but had always done his utmost for the welfare of tho farming industry. He had graduated to the presidential chair through the vice-presi-dency, and had been one of the Association's most valuable members and officers. The gift, accompanied with the gathering's best wishes, was only a slight token of the esteem in which he was held. Other speakers supported Mr Parker, End Mr Hobbs suitably replied.
