COUNTY COUNCILS.
HEATHCOTE. The Heathcote County Council met last evening. Present: Messrs J. L. Danks (chairman), W. W. Scarff, J. H. Moore, \Y. Kerr, A. G. Williams, J. P. Scott, C. t'lavell, and J. H. McAuiiffe (clerk). Riding balances as at Ootober 81at, 1930, were shown as follows:—Avon riding a credit of £206; Bromley riding, a credit of £4; Hillsborough riding, a oredit of £360; Valley riding, a credit of £313; Cashmere riding, a credit of £1361; Mount Pleasant tiding, a credit of £43. It was decided that the 10 per cent, penalty on all rates unpaid at the Council office on February 16th, 1931, ehoulfl be added. The District Electrical Engineer advisea that a rebate of £77 4s lOd had been allowed off the September meter account as a result of the restrictions placed on the electric supply. The letter was received and it was decided to thank the Department for allowing the rebate. The Ghristchurch Tramway Board forwarded a copy of the special order in connexion with the New Brighton bridge loan of £SOOO, and requested that the Council should collect the rate within its district, alsr. making enquiries as to what commission would be charged for this collection. It was decided that the clerk should confer with the Tramway Board about the amount of commission. Clearing of Gores. The Huntsbury Ratepayers' Association wiote asking the Council to enforce the clearing of gorse from numerous sections and from the road and footpath at Huntsbury, as the matter waa dangerous owing to tno possibility of fires in the summer. The letter also asked that the . owners be requested to remove the gorse by grubbing ana not by burning, as the residents had from time to time planted numerous trees ill various parts of the hillsides. It was decided that the inspector should visit tha district and enforce tha requests. It waa decided in response to a letter fiom the Hillsborough Opawa Burgesses' Association enquiring whether it would be liossible, in the event of a park being purchased within the City area adjacent to the Hillsborough riding, for a portion of that riding to be rated to help to pay for the park, that it was not possible to agree to the rating It waa decided to make a grant oi £3 8s to tho Sumner authorities towards the cost of patrolling the beach. Inspector's Itepcrt. Tha inspector (Mr A. E. Inder) reported that the work on Marlow road had been stopped and the men paid off. In the Mount Pleasant riding rolling operations had been ocuducted on St. Andrew's Hill, and the Returned Soldiers' Association men in this riding had been paid oS. The roller had been transferred to Hillsborough as little good could be done on the Sumner road owing to rough stones, of which the sides of tho road were formed. The sides of thO bitumenised portion of tho Sumner road had bean made up with tarred metal. The report was adopted. Accounts totalling £2456 18s 6d were passed for payment. AMURI. At tho monthly meeting of the Amari County Council in Culverden th© following were present: Crs. M. Bethell (chairman), H. H. Davison, J. J. Duncan, X. Pettigrew, R. Mercer, G. O. Rutherford, W. Hanmer and J. J. G-atltg'her. An apology was received from Cr. R. L. Jameson. Cr. Gallagher reported that Botherham Riding members had inspected Green road, and agreed to have the formation work carried out immediately and the metalling later, Mr Anderson having agreed to do the necessary ploughing. On the motion of Cr. R. Mercer, seconded by Cr. K. Pettigrew, it was decided to employ G. Powis to carry out the re-erection of the bridge giving access to the Waiau Domain. It waa resolved that proceedings be takon to sell sections 79-80, Rotherham township, in order to recover rates. Tho clerk was instructed to pfepar® a list of all lates outstanding for the current year for next meeting.
