COMPENSATION AWARDED.

CARPENTER'S CLAIM. A claim by a carpenter for compensation for injuries resulting from a fall from a girder during the construction of the Regent Theatre building, was heard in the Arbitration Court yesterday, when Robert Douglas Salt, of Hcathcote, carpenter, claimed against William Williamson, of Christchurch, a builder, for compensation, alleged to be due to tho plaintiff, and such further relief as the nature of the case should require, with costs.

His Honour Mr Justice Frazer, with him Mr W. Cecil Prime (employers' assessor), and Mr A. L. Monteith (employees' assessor) was on the Bench. Mr F. S. Wilding appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr R. A. Cuthbert for tho defendant.

The statement of claim set out that plaintiff, on March 24th, 1930, was employed by the defendant on the construction of the Regent Theatre in Cathedral square, and that on that date an accident happened to the plaintiff whereby he fell a distance of 30 feet or more from a girder, receiving serious injuries to his body, legs, and head, ah well as an injury to his heart. "The plaintiff has certainly suffered a very serious injury," said Judge Frazer, after the Court had retired for consideration of its decision. "We have decided to award full compensation to date, and for the next thirteen weeks; then compensation at the rate of 55 per cent, of the full compensation for the next 52 weeks, and thereafter at 45 per cent, of full compensation."
