THEOSOPHY AND CHRISTIANITY.
TO THE EDITOR ©» *HB SBBSS. Sir, —The Vexu Archdeacon Taylor ha» gone to some pains to prove that Theosophy and its teaching are anti-Christian, and discusses fake philosophies at 'some length. The public are not particularly ' concerned about abstruse theological or philosophical controversies, and' I "will confine my reply to the "Ven. Archdeacon's direct challenge that Theosophy and its teaching are anti-Christian. This we emphatically and definitely deny. + Theosophy>is not sinti-Christian, but it certainly is anti-sectarian. Theo- ' sophists are "students: of religion" in the most reverential meaning of the term. They believe that all earnest ligions are direct roads to God. They 1 believe in the Divinity of Christ, and that He was the Son of God. - The whole teaching of Theosophy is eompriseji in the fundamental belief in the Fatherhood of God, and the brotherhood or man, as expressed "by Christ in the Golden Bule—"Do unto others as you would that they should do unto yon." Candidates for membership are required to -subscribe tp. that one doctrine, and that only. One of the objects. of the Society is to encourage and to facilitate the study of comparative religion, philosophy, and science, and members naturally become earnest students of these subjects in a free and unrestricted search for truth. There is also an advanced study class, in which the basis of study is "selflessness" and members of this class are required to dedicate their lives to selfless service to all humanity,. wherever, they!.miay be. whether in the home, in business, or in any walk of life. I have yet to learn of a more Christ-like doctrine.—Tours, etc., • C. E. YATES, President Christchurch' Lodge of the Theosophical Society.' November 19th, 1930.
