Varlcy, at Prebbleton, has left on her return to Sydney. She was accompanied as far as Wellington by Mrs Varley, who will spend a short holiday there. Another successful dance and euchre social were held in the public hall under the auspices of the Sports Club, when there was again a large attendance. Mr H. Woods's band provided the dance music, extras being played by Mr 11. Longstaffe. Mr J. Smith was M.C. Prizes at euchre were secured by Miss Joyce Kolkman, Mrs Preeman, Mr T. Campion, and Mr C. S. Hands. TAI TAPU. The weekly socials in aid of the Tai Tapu Hall funds are proving very successful. At the last one there was a good attendance. Mr It. Willan was M.C.,' and Mr W. Newton supplied the music. The work of building the new school at Tai Tapu was commenced this week. HORNBY. The Hornby League Football Club held their annual ball in the Islington Hall. There wero special decorations and the hall had a carnival appearance. The latest dance music was supplied by Miss Nolan's Orchestra. Mr M. Healev (chairman of the Canterbury Rugby League, Christchurcli) presented the senior trophy, the McKeown Cup, to S. Mniards, and the senior championship shield and the Kidd-Mitchell Cup and junior banner to P. Burns (captain). He also handed to Masters K. Standeven, V. Kesteven, and J. j Garrett (schoolboys) the cups they had won.

The Saturday evening weekly dances held in the Orange Hall, Hornby, have been very successful. At the last one the lucky number was won by Mr V. Graham, and the Monte Carlo by Miss Riddle and partner. I LITTLE RIVER. The monthly meeting oi St. Andrew's Ladies' Sewing Guild was held in the Coronation Library. Little River, when there were present: Mesdames D. Hay (in the chair), Aitken, J. Humphries, A. Thompson, G. Brietmeyer,' Trail. Reynolds, and Marsh. Mrs Aitken reported that £IOO had been deposited in the bank. A long discussion took place as to whether the Guild should hold a. bazaar or market, and whether itshould be held before or after Christmas. It was arranged that a market be held on Saturdav. December '2oth. The following stali-holders were appointed : —Bran tub and toys. M rs Geo. Jones and helpers; plain and fancy, Mesdames J. Humphries, and W. Stanbury, produce. Mesdames A. Thompson and Trail ; afternoon tea, Mesdames H. Roed. Marsh, and helpers.
