Because they were fiped recently lor shooting ducks in the Ashburton disrtrict, with a 1' cense for the North Canterbury district, Messrs O. von Sierakowski and A. W. Sparrow wrote a letter of protest to the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, of which both men are members. The letter, which was read at a meeting of the Council of the Assopiation held last evening, asked that the whole case be reviewed. Several members had expressed disapproval of the manner in which the evidence for the charge was obtained by the Society and handed over to the Ashburton Society to prosecute. They failed to see whv the ranger should have' gone out of "his way to get the conviction. They considered they had been harshly treated. They had taken out their licenses thinking that they would hold good for the Ashburton district. During the discussion which followed it was pointed out that it was apparent from the licenses that t.hev applied to the North Canterbury district only. Finally it was decided that the letter be received and a suitable reply sent, it being left to the secretary and president to dratt the letter.
