PAPANUI BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION.

At a meeting of the Papanui Beautifying Association there were present: Messrs H Tillman (in the chair), E. Egglestonc, J. Sturrock, W W. Taylor, Mesdames Egglestone, Smith, Taylor, and Miss Hodgson. A letter was received from the Rannerdale Homo authorities stating that they would be willing to fall into line with any movement to remove or lower the fences fronting the Papanui road. The chairman said that quite a number of houses on Papanui road had such a . wealth of trees along their frontages that privacy would not be lost.hv the removal of the front fence. With the paving of the road in bitumen the Just nuisance had been removed. It was decided to write the various property owners asking their opinions on the question. Mrs E. Egglestone reported that the offer of shrubs from Sir Heaton Rhodes, for planting on the station reserve, had come too late for this season, but as the shrubs were still available, they would be planted next winter. It was decided to draw the attention of the City Council to a number of unsightly sections overgrown with noxious weeds. The chairman reported that the headmasters- of the VVaimairi and Pftpanui Schools had been written to in regard to the Association's essay co,tipetition. The subject for this year's competition was: "Why J Should Respect Wayside Gardens." It was decided to write to the Tramway Board expressing regret that they had found it necessary to dig up part of the native plot at the balloon loop without giving the Association notice of their intention to do so.
