! KAIAPOI. i i Tii© iortiiigluly meeting oi! the Ivaiupoi 1 Borough Council was held last night. Present: Thu Mayor (Rev. W. H. A. Vickery), Crs. A K. Brown. E. J. Pollard, 11. Rinaldi, H. Mcintosh, P. Thome, A. liinlclater, J. X>. Williams, M. Ramsay. and G. Greenwood. The secretary to the Kaiapoi Pines Beach. Surf Club wrote advising that the club proposed to erect a shed on the beach in which to store its reel and line, and asked if the Council would make a donation towards carrying out the work. A donation of £2 2s was granted. The town clerk, Eltham, wrote asking the Council's consideration and support of a scheme suggested by the Mayor of Eltham (Mr J. J. Bridges) for the dual purpose of relieving unemployment and the development of the unoccupied lands of the Dominion. The matter was referred to the Fiuaneo Committee for a report. The secretary to the Waimakariri PowerBoat Club wrote asking if th© Council would ©xercise its power in having th© pipes of th© drain near the entrance to the club's new moorings extended so as to be always under water, and so avoid the unpleasant smell which now arises at low tide. j The matter was referred to the Works ] Committee for a report. j The Postmaster. Kaiapoi, wrote giving the requirements of the Department in connexion with 3 continuous telephone service in Kaia- j poi. I Cr. Mcintosh was appointed the Council's representative to approach subscribers with the object of bringing before them the advantages of a continuous telephone service. Th© By-laws Committee recommended that a traffic inspector be appointed, the position to be a part-time one under the control of the town clerk. The committee recommended that drain layers in the . borough be notified that drain laying must not be out until th© annual license fees are paid. The committee suggested that the attention of the authorities be drawn to the state of the railway crossing and th© main traffic bridge. I Th© recommendation was adopted. | Mr L. P.
