CRYSTAL PALACE.

A SPLENDID PROGRAMME. With an interesting section of tho film pjoduced in technicolour, ami the whole: presented with an artistry which is in itself forceful, "The Son of the Gods," tho alltalking dramatic masterpiece, which opened it® season at the Crystal Palace to large audiences yesterday, must be adjudged one of the best dramas which the advent ol the talkies has made available for the theatre-going public. It must be placed in tho highest grade, -whether it be reviewed either from the aspect of acting, talking, or pioduction. The. story, one oi Rex Reach's best, is a well-known one, and those who read tho hook and enjoyed it can bo guaranteed that they will enjoy the film version of it just as well, if not better, as it has lost none of ito charm and gripping realism in the making of the picture, and many of the acene3 gain poignancy. as the result oi the artistic touches given by the camera. Tbe cast has been admirably chosen, and Iticbard Bartfcelmess in the leading male role, and in a very exacting. dramatic character part, gives perhaps the best interpretation that he has yet done on the screen. In tho leading feminine role is Constance Bennett, and her work stamps Tier as one of the most capable dramatic interpreters on the screen to-day. Altogether the picturo is one of the %nost satisfying- entertainments that, has been seen in Christchurch for some time. The supporting programme includes "Aborts" which are of an equally hijrh calibre.
