| "THE BELLE OF NEW YORK" FOPULAR PRODUCTION. r.nj°"*'i n S * successful revival ju the Theatre Royal this week, under the management o£ J. C. "Williamson, Ltd., is "The Belle of New York.'' Perhaps, of all comic operas, this is tho most popular. Many years ago its songs wero on everybody's lips, and even to-day theso possess a flavour that, is irresistible. Altogether tho J. C. Williamson firm are to be applauded for their courage in staging tho production, which has every merit and no fault. The version of tho play has been modernised and brought completely up to date. One of the most interesting features of the production is tho fact Ihat Leslie Holland was specially engaged lo -play his old rolo of Jc.liahod Bronson. iSidncy Burchall, as young' Harry Brouson, is another player of * good finish and heroic stylo. As Violet Gray, Romola Hansen is cliarmins: and restrained, i The rolo of the pretty .Salvation Army luss is one requiring demure and dainty treatment. and this and more are giveu to it by Miss -Hansen. Jim Gerald has a good comedy rolo. "The Belle of New York" will be repeated until Friday evening next, and, judging- by the enthusiastic audience last night, it should enjoy a wonderfully successful season.
