Sha-.v's injury to his spina is more -jprious than was at first anticipated, and he is likely to be confined to hospital for five or six weeks, while some rime will elapse before he will be able to ride again. To be Spelled. Hunalagh was palpably oft colour in his races at Riccarton last week and is to be treated to a three months' spell. Flis stable-mate, Pangolin, will also be off the scene for some time as the reault •it" his bad fall on Saturday. Temporary Soreness. Concentrate showed signs of shin soreness on Friday, and, owing to the prevailing tracks on Saturday, it was not thought wisu to start him in the .■Metropolitan Handicap. He will be Ziven a short let-up on his return to Trenthani and then will be prepared for •he Auckland Cup. In Demand. The services of the successful sire, Valkyrian, now stationed at Belfast, have been readily availed of this season, and the following mares wero recently to him:—Mr E. C. Hazlett's Dismantle (sister to Overhaul and halfsister to Master Anomaly), due to foal shortly to the same sire; Mr J. B. Pearson's Malmsey; Mr A. Smith's All Red —She's Named mare, who has a filly foal at foot by Valkyrian; and Mr D. E. Lewis's English mare Glamis, by Forfarshire from Claire-de-Beaupre, by St. Serf. Kidexs' Share. The five successes gained by H. Gray at the New Zealand Cup Meeting helped to place him at the head of the list of jockeyß' fees with £155 12s, and he was followed by E. Beed with £.126 10s, and by the apprentice, K. Voitre, with £lO9 16s. The remaining principal amounts were collected by Ihe following:—H. Wiggins, £BO 8s; U. J. Ellis, £64 16s; T. Green, £63 (2s; S. Gerrand, £SB 16s; A. E. Ellis, £SB 12s; I/. G. Morris, £56 8s; B. Ooveny, £52 8s; W. Broughton, £49 •'is: A. Eastwood, £4B; J. M. Pine, £46 Ib's; D. O'Connor, £39 ss; B. H. Morris, £3B 16s; B. Notwithstanding the extensive drop in the totalisator receipts at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan -Meeting, the amount payable to the Government in totalisator and dividend taxes aggregates £15,174 Is, as against £15,337 7s 3d collected from last year's Meeting. On the latter occasion the totalisator tax was 2J and dividend tax 5 per cent., and this year the increased totalisator tax of 5 per cent, was levied, while the dividend tax remained the same. The payments are made np as follows: 1929. Totalisator Investments £219,104.) £ s. d. When nominations were received for the Nelson Trotting Club's Annual Meeting, it was realised that tho poor response- from owners would make it extremely difficult for the Club to carry on, and it is not surprising to find that the Meeting has been abandoned. The Club has made application for March 7th, and for the Meeting to be held on the Wellington Trotting Club's course. Last season the Club held a Meeting at Greymouth. There aro plenty of places in the South Island where permits, if surrendered, could be used to advantage, and if any encour- < agement were offered a club would quickly be formed in the North Canter- . bury district. Methven, too, could well do with another permit. Aracluie.
When Arachne first raced at Kaikoura gave promise of turning out a first-class racing proposition, but on going to the North Island she has frequently refused to show the form she is known to be capable of showing. With increasing age, however, she may show distinct improvement, and it would not be surprising to find her winning good races in the near future. A Record. Grattan Boyal, sire of Grattan Loyal, reeontly imported to New Zealand by P. Holmes, is the first sire to be credited with three two-minute pacers. His progeny include Grattan Bars l.odi, and Louie Grattan, and Widow Grattan, each with 2min records to thoir credit. Neeoro rails. A. Hendrikaen had Neeoro in grand order for racing at Addington last week, out the chestnut pacer found it impossible to make the running and beat •uch a areat performer as Harold Lo-
gan, who went 4min 22 4-ssec. Under ordinary conditions Neeoro would have had a royal chance, but in Harold Logan he met an exceptional performer. Free Advice. Free Adviee disappointed at Addington, and her next performance will probably be at Forbury Park. At her best she does not appear to be a genuine performer in public. Filly Sold. During Carnival Week, H. Matson sold privately to Mr N. Horscroft, Timaru, a three-year-old filly by jPeter Chenault, from a full sister to Sister Beatrice, at a very satisfactory figure. Win ton Meeting. Erin's Fair was given as an acceptor for the Hokonui Trot at the Winton Racing Club's fixture to-morrow in error. —Press Association. FEILDING J.C.
