A TRIBUTE.
PAST GOVERNORS-GENERAL. Generous tributes to the two Gover-nors-General who preceded him irf New Zealand were paid bv Lord Bledisloe during his address nt the Canterbury West of England Society'., reception on Saturday evening. "I must ask particularly for the sympathy and indulgence of the West of England people,'' said his Excellency. "for T am following two of the. most able, most enlightened, and most lovable locn rnlio have ever governed in the colonies—Lord Jellicoe, a famous sailor, and a great sportsman, nnd Sir Charles Fergutson. a soldier nnd a man of ideals. "Lady Bledisloe and 1 hope to do what we can to follow their magnificent example, to maintain the high standard to which they have raised the office of the Governor-Generalship in New Zealand. We need a great deal of svmpatby in our work, and we hope it will most willingly come from vou, the people of our own West of ?]nglancl "
