SWIMMING.

SYDENHAM CLUB. The official opening of the Sydenham Amateur Swimming Club's 1930-31 oeason took place on Saturday afternoon. The ceremony wa.4 performed by the Mayor (Mr J K. Archer), who was introduced by the president of the club (Mr J. II Pratt;. Mr Pratt regretted that there was not a Uvrger attendance. Unfortunately there were other amusementa at the moment. He would like to thank the City Council for providing new seating accominodition at the baths. The Mayor expressed bi« pleasure »t being afforded the opportunity to be present. He albo referred to the small attendance, but hoped that this would be the best season that the club had had. He declared the season open. The first plunge was taken hy Mr A. J'odda, who stated on emergence that the water v;as of a very satisfactory temperature. Thereafter impromptu races and diving events were held.
