LEWIS PASS ROAD. Advice was received in Christchurch yesterday that the men engaged on the construction of the Canterbury section of the Lewis Pass road bad received notice, and tho work would be closed down immediately. The Public Works Department has advised the Inangahua County Council that work on the Lewis Pass road, on which there are thirty men employed at the Marina end, has been suspended and operations will cease on Wednesday A public meeting is being held this evening at tteefton to urge that tlie work be continued owing to the unemployment in the district, where miners _aro -working short time.
