Technical School Board. : ', At the'nionthly meeting of the-Ash-burton .Technical School Board yesterday, there were 1 present: Messrs. B. Galbraith (chairman), T. Hayes, W. Bramley,.J. .Watson, .W. T. Lill, W. 6. Hillier,, and . G-. : W. -Andrews, - - ■ v *"■ ' The financial statement showed £Kat> . there, was 'a- credit balance of £372 14s. The Education Department . wrote agreeing that the Board s&oiild insure its ownteachers against accident b en- . gineering and woodwork iifetruction. Mr Thompson saidthat the Department tofib the risk,, under present conditions,. and treated each case on its merits. ' ■ It waß decided to fake no 'action in the .'meantime. The.- Education Department wrote 'stating th^t, there was no - objection- to, the, Board 'making contributions towards' tfed; travelling expenses of pupils attending the school,, who hadto" travel by ;bus, at considerable expense to tixe parents. ■ • . . A circular:-was also- received from; the -Department containing, a -proposal' that all technical . sehool teachers be certificated. . . '-. - ■ . . Mr Thompson said that .nearly half the- meihbers- of >'tho school staff -were not certificated, bat/" they wonld v be, granted certificates automatically. '.T, • • Thompson' (principal) stated , th.a't„ the , term, ex-; aminations for .the- senior free, plaee commenced this week. The'.first-year >ex<aminations would .start on November.: 26th. The term would end On December 11th, when they hoped to have Mr W. A. Banks of the Education Board) as the "chief speaker. Miss I. Chamberlain' had taken up* her'' duties assart- mistress,- on plications were, at • present being "called" for, the position of instructor in agriculture. -Mr Tj.M. .Hobbs had. received notice of his success in obtaining the New Zealand handicraft teachers' certificate, which was held.-by only sue people in the Dominion. Mr J. M. Willoughby, ■ too, was to be ; congratulated' on an excellent pas? iti ' the Australian Institute'. of : Secretaries' examination. There had been nineteen applications for the fourteen stands - at. the 'shearing class, .which commenced on 'Monday last. !No difficulty had - been experienced in- obtaining; sheep. Both machine and bladeshearing were being: taught by the instructor (Mr J. McCormick). The school exhibit at the A. aind Pi-Show covered a wide range of subjects, and the wprk generally was of a standard to call forth many exclamations of -praise from
