THE PRESBYTERY.

MONTHLY MEETING HELD, The monthly meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery was held" yesterday morning, tlm Moderator (the Rev. T. Paterson) presiding. Reports of Presbyterial Visitations were received. St.'Paul's Church had been found in a prpgressive state, and it was emphasised that there was nothing that need detain the Presbytery in regard to the work that was going oh there. The John Knox Church, Rangiora, was reported to be preserving a healthy tone. There was much general activity. _ The report of the Commission that visited the Waikari Church was also received. The approval of the Presbytery was given to a brief statement of the Church's faith, which had been prepared by a special committee set up in Dunedln. The statement was read by the Rev. T. W. Artnour. A motion to expedite the revision of the Church's standards was carried after the statement had been discussed.

A deputation from the Cust-Oxford district waited on the Presbytery witft a petition that the Home Missioner in the area (Mr A. Simmonds) be retained in his charge a further year. Messrs J. Smith (Cust) and A. Baxter (Oxford) sooke in favour of the retention. The Presbytery decided to recommend to the Home Mission Committee that Mr Simmonds be retained. The monthly report 6f the Hospital Chaplain was received, An application from the Rev. J. Gemmell, of Hanmer Springs, for admittance to full ministerial status was received. It was decided to refer the matter of the application to the Home Missions Committee.
