STOP-WORK MEETING.

The monthly stop-work meeting of the Lyttellon Transport Workers' Union was held yesterday morning. Magistrate's Court. Mr H. A. Young, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Matakino Hilliard Tau was ordered to pay Page Bros. (Mr L. J. Hensley) the sum of £7 8s 6d, under a judgment summons, at the rate of 2s 6d per week. Obituary. A verv old servant of the Lyttelton Borough" Council, Mr John Carter died on Tuesday evening at his home in Jackson's road, iir Carter was horn in Cornwall seventy- f our years ago and at the age of seven years commenced work in the tin-mines. He arrived in. New Zealand in the 'eighties and worked on the construction of the Lyttelton Graving Dock. Later he was employed by the Lyttelton Gas Company, and when the gasworks were purchased by the Borough Council his services were retained until he became ill nearly a year ago. Mr Carter was a member of the Unanimity Masonic Lodge and of the Loyal City of Norwich Oddfellows' Lodge.
