TRAMWAY BOARD ELECTION.

ROLLS CLOSE TO-DAY.

The rolls to be used at the general election of members of the Christchurch Tramway Board will close at 5 p.m. today. This will be the last opportunity for those who possess the necessary qualifications to get on the roll. It is anticipated that as the result of the purging of the roll for thft central subdistrict, used at the previous election, the number on the roll for that subdistrict this year will show a considerable decrease.

Already the nominations of the Citizens' Association's candidates for the central sub-district—Messrs W. Hayward, E. H. Andrews, Geo. T. Booth, H. Pearce, and W. Williamson—have been lodged with s the returning officer. The Labour Representation Committee's candidates also have been nominated as follows:—Central: Messrs S. McCombs, M.P., P. C. Webb, George Manning, It. M. Macfarlane, and A. H. Scales. Spreydon: Mr G. T. Thurston. Hills-Sumner, Mrs Elizabeth B. McCombs. For the Spreydon sub-district, Mr D. Sykes, the sitting member, will be a candidate; and Mr W. J. Walter, the sitting member for the AvonBrighton sub-district, will be a candidate. There is a possibility that Mr J. N. Harle, who unsuccessfully contested the Avon-Brighton seat three years ago, will be a candidate this year. Mr M. E. Lyons intends contesting the Hills-Sumner seat, and Mr John Wood, the sitting member for the Riccarton-Sockburn sub-district, is promised opposition by Mr A. A. McLachlan. The election will be held on the 27th inst.
