Tho former Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Stanley Bruce, who reached Fremantle on the Orama, stated that on-a of the definite conclusions he had arrived at was that, notwithstanding the difficult times which Australia was facing, she was in an incomparably better position than any other country. In Britain the situation is serious, and he could not see any improvement until things got still worse. On the Continent the position was tragic. Every country, with the exception of France, and to a lesser de-. gree, Belgium, was either in a serious economic and financial difficulty or was heading that way.
