definition op country work TPBSSS 4SSOCIJ.TIOS TBLBOBAM.* AUCKLAND. November 8A judgment of interest to men employed on jobs outside the cities and on suburban country work was Riven ■by Mr E. C. Cutten. S.M.. in a case in which the Auckland Carpenters and Joiners' Union claimed penalties from H. T Clement. Defendant contracted to erect » large building at Bombay, 29 miles from Auckland. The union contended that some of the employees had homes m other places, and as they had t0 sleep away from home they, were entitled to an extra five shillings daily for "country work." The Magistrate held that the clause in the award was not intended to put an employer at a disadvantage in tendering for jobs away from his norma headquarters, nor to interfere witn the mobility of labour. There was on record a decision that the countr, work clause was not intended to cov ®!" the case of men wh.o were "°t. sen to a oarticular place, but who ' ou work under terms that could be ascertained by them before accepting employment. He held that the work ' dispute in this case was not conn y work.
