MISTAKE IN A NAME.
JUDGMENT FOR PLAINTIFF. As a result of a mistake made by the Canterbury Labour Exchange Company, Ltd., in preparing a form of engagement a judgment for £4 Ids 6d was given against the Company in favour of William Edward Thompson, of Rangiora, cook, in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. , Mr VV. J. iiuiiter appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr H. D. Acland for the defendant company. Mr H. A. Young, S.M., was on the bench. The plaintiff claimed £4 los 6d for loss of wages and travelling expenses. Mr. Hunter said - that plaintiff had received instructions to go to the I threshing mill of Messrs Dalzell and Zimmerman. He was to take a position as cook and was told that the mill was on a farm near Glasnevin He set out by train for Glasnevin but on arrival at Raneiora was told that the mill was at Fernside Hp erot out of the train and went to Fernside. where he found the mill. Messrs Dal zell and Zimmerman, howover told him that thev had not engaged him. Subsequently it was discovered that the defendant comnanv had received its instructions to engage a oooit from a Mr Daliell. who was not cnnnpc+cl with the firm of Dalzell and Zimmerman. but who had a mill near Glasnevin. The Magistrate held that in view of the mistake made bv tho defendant company in nrepcrine the form of engagement. the plaintiff had acted reasonably in goins to Mes«r« DalsHl and Zimmerman's m'Ti at Fernside Judgment was given for the n'aintiff for the full amount claimed with costs.
