Matters relating to tlio Dyer Pass •road came before tho Heathcote I ounty Council at its meeting last ni&lit. The C'hristekureh City Council « rote regarding Dyer's Pass main hit fl v that it was of opinion that tho road was uscxl to such a small extent by residents of Christehureh that expenditure thereon by tho City was not warranted.
Cr. \Y. \Y. iX'arll : That is wha. 1 ex<pected and what 1 was working tor. The chairman C. t'lavvlli: Ihe residents ot Christehureh use it ((iKi' a lot. Cr. Scar If: You know wliat happened onco before! We have taken a tail}. 1 will movo now that ue apply lor a commission.
Cr. J. I<. Danks said that the City Council should be apprised of whai they intended doing. He did nol think that they could tako the City Council's letter seriously. The chairman: Why
Cr. Danks: It is obvious that so far as Dyer's Pass road is concerned the statement that practically they don t u.so it cannot be taken seriously. Ihe City Council should be approached ami if they will not meet us in contorenc<> we should apply for a commission. Tho County Clerk's letter ami tho City Council's reply were read, and i< was shown tfiat the summary of the City Codicil's letter correctly indicated its attitude.-
Cr. fcrarlY said the City Council might not have understood that th<* portion the county wanted them tio assist with was from tho Ta.ka.he to the* Kiwi. Tho county was nob-asking for any maintenance of Dyer's Pass road on"tho residential portion, but. on the main highways portion. The chairman said ho thought that the City Council understood tho position.
On tho motion of Cr. ScarlT, seconded ? by Cr. Dauks, it was decided t/i n,ppb' for a commission to allocate tlio cost of construction and maintenance front the Takalie to the Kiwi, nnd to advise the City Council of this action. Cr. Scarff reported that tho construction work on tho Dyer's main highway was completed on 'Wednesday night, tho cost coming within 32s or 35s of tho estimate, and tindistance was short of tho estimitto by • 10ft. After the roller had boon over it (on Monday or Tuesday next) it would ho quite a creditable job. Without any exaggeration he could statf that any driver could go from th» Takalie for the 30 chains up on top gear. The construction work had been carried to within 10ft of tho Red Corner'.
