BOROUGH COUNCILS.
RANGIORA. The Rangiora Borough Council met last night—Present—The Mayor (Mr W. A. Rowso), and Crs. C. I. Jennings, A. E.Evans, C. W Tyler, R. H. Bailey, H. Kippenberger, and J. Catherwood. Apologies were received from Crs. C. S. Ayers and J. J. Matthews. In connexion with the Grey District Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the Mayor suid he had received an invitation from tho Mayor of Groymouth, and had also received a circular letter from tho secretary of the Executive Committeo in connexion with the jubilee, asking for his co-operation in getting into touch with any West Coastors who may be in the district. It was decided that the Mayor accept tho invitation. A letter was received from the Minister for Health in connexion with tho Council's application for permission to install sewerage only in the borough, stating that the Department's officers were considering whether a sewerage installation could be regarded as a satisfactory solution to tho sanitation problem in Rangiora. The following applications for auctioneers' licenses were granted:—N.Z. Farmers' Co-op. Association, Pyno, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., H. Mataon and Co., National Mortgage and Agency, and L. P. Devlin. The dog registration foes were fixed at 2s 6d and 10s.
In i connexion with the sewerage, the clerk said that while in Dunedin he had interviewed Mr Fletcher Roberts and placed befoire him the proposed sewerage area, which was slightly larger than that previously reported on by him, and one or two alterations were suggested. The clerk stated that as instructed by the Council, the chairman of the finance committee had considered the matter of steel poles to enable the Government's requirements to be met, and an order had been dispatched for forty-two poles at the original price. The Electrical Engineer reported that two new consumers were connected up since last meeting, and extensions to Installations had been made. The maximum load for the month was 84.6 k.w. The Gas Manager reported that S8 tons 14cwt of coal had been used during the month, showing a total make of gas of 510,000 cubic feet, equal to 13.000 cubit feet per ton of coal. Over 20 tons of coke were on hand, for which there was very little demand at present.
The Gas Manager was granted permission to attend the gas managers' conference in Christchurch. In connexion with the North Canterbury Power Board's loan poll on Tuesday next, the Mayor was appointed to exercise the borough's vote, with instructions to support the proposal. Cr. Tyler and the Town Clerk were appointed to represent the Council at the meeting of the Highways Board to bo held in Christchurch on Tuesday next.
