NAVY LEAGUE.
ANNUAL STREET APPEAL,
By the sale of badges in the streets of the City yesterday the Canterbury branch of the Navy League began its annual appeal, which will culminate to-day with the garden fete and water carniyal.
A largo- numbei of. young ladies were engaged all day yesterday disposing of miniature white ensigns, the flag of thfc Royal Navy. The funds of the League will benefit from this source to the extent of £129 18s lOd. The Navy League Hall was utilised l for the purposes o! headquarters, and here the members of the Women's Auxiliary of the League dispensed refreshments to tho large number of badge sellers. Mr T. H. Foster, the honorary treasurer of the League, and a number of helpers, issued the boxes and received the cash.
There is a long list of attractions which should result in a big attendance at the garden fete and water carnival on the beautiful grounds of Mrs Overton, 39 Fencklton road. A hydroplane will give a turn of speed on the river above the mill dam, aiuJ there will be picturesque dancing on the lawn by the pupils of Miss Charlotte Lowe at ten minute intervals during the afternoon. Also there will be numerous stalls, and children will be specially provided for.
