THE PAPANUI TRAM SERVICE.
TO THE EDITOB OS THE TRESS. Sir, —Over and over again, lately, 1 liare thought of complaining of the abominable tramway service on the Papanui line, and I can keep silent no longer. Tlfree times this week 1 have waited in Victoria street for periods ranging from 14 to 21 minutes waiting for a tram which is supposed to appear every six minutes. _ When a tram does heave in sight, it is closely followed by two or three others. The other day, after waiting 17 minutes, four trams came along together, two with trailers. The first was, of course, packed like a sardine tin —packed as no privately-owned tramway company would be allowed to pack. The trouble is due, one supposes, to the reconstruction work between Bealey avenue and Leinster road. But is that an excuse? The tramway authorities know what they have to deal with, and should make their traffic arrangements accordingly. But they don't. They let the care run just anyhow. And they wonder why the poor, ignorant man in the street dares to tnink the management could be improved.—Yours, etc., JOB.
