THE SUMMIT ROAD TRUST.
TO THE EDITOR 0» THZ PRESS.
Sir, —The improvements on the Cashmere Hills should be looked upon as of very great interest to the City of Christchurch. They are added attractions for visitors, and are very valuable to citizens of Christchurch a3 opportunities for the best exercise in clear fresh air, and for enjoyment of Nature's beauties. Is not the best settlement of present difficulties the taking over by the City Council of the whole work, with its liabilities, and the adoption of a fearless, goahead policy? Surely much of the money needed could be collected, and the remainder borrowed at low interest from local possessors of funds who see the value to the City of the delightful attractions of the hills, coupled with the aids to enjoyment provided. After obtaining the power to take over the work, let the City authorities meet Mr Ell and come to an agreement as to what is necessary to round off the enterprise satisfactorily, and then push matters forward, giving Mr Ell charge of operations. Ho is a man with energy, love for the task, and an appreciation of beauty: a good man, surely, for the purpose. Then advertise the walks, or drives, reserves, park, and teahouses, stf that visitors to Christchurch may be aware of the pleasure obtainable on the Citys nill playground.-Yo-iirs, toOKER-ON.
