RECHABITE FAIR.

OPENED BY MAYOR. A bazaar and fancy.fair iu conjunction with the Independent Order of Bechibates' Juvenile Queen Carnival commenced yesterday afternoon at the Art Gallery, and will be continued this afternoon and evening. Mr C. H. Bascand introduced the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), who opened the fair.

The Mayor roferred to the laudable purposes of the fair, especially as part of, the proceeds would go to the benevolent fund of the Order, and benefit those who were sick and in need. He understood that part of the money made by the fair would go to make up for a recent theft suffered by the Order. It waß surprising how frequent thefts, many of them of a petty order, were, and he hoped that if any offenders were apprehended they would be dealt with severely. The Mayor, in declaring the fair open for business, wished the Rechabites every financial success.
