LAWN TENNIS.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The following inlcr-club matches will bo played to-morrow: — - Junior A.—New Brighton v. Avonside, W.P. courts 1 and 2; Linwood v. Ehnwood, W.P. courts A and B; Edgew_are v. St. Albans, W.P. courts 5 and 6; Opawa v. Addington, W.P. courts 3 and 4, Sub. A Grade.—To Whaka v. Halswell, W.P. courts 7 and 8; Paparua v. Spreydon, at Spriydon; Redcliffs v. St. Stephen's, at St. Stephen's.

Sub. B Grade.—Addington Catholic v. Barrington, at Barrington; Templetpn v. Heathcte, W.P. courts 9 and 10; St. Martins v. Bcckcnham, at St. Martins; Yaldhurßt v. Papanui, W.P. courts 11 and 12; Wesley v. South Christchurch, at Wesley. Sub. C Grade.—St. Mary's v. Riccarton, W.P. courts 13 and 14; St. Philip's v. Prebblcton, W.P. courts 15 and 16; Cathedral v. Shirley, at Cathedral; Woolston v. Paparua, W.P. courts 18 and 19.

RANKING MATCHES. Two ranking matches under t.he Cantorbury Lawn* Tennis Association were played lust" evening on the United court*. One of them went to three sets. The results wore as follows; — C. Angas beat B. 8,. Loughnan, 6-3, 6-0. The loser appeared to find it difficult to keep a good foothold on the court, but his opponent was playing well. Loughnan was unable to practise his favourite tactic of Standing close to the net for volleying, and mado a weak showing in the second set. Angas retains his fifth position, and Loughnan takes sixth. D. F. Glanvillo beat J. H. W. Shcppard, 3-6, 6-4, 9-7. By tho result of this match Glanville holds seventh place Sheppard won the first set fairly easily, but in the second he made a number of mistakes, from which tho winner profited. Glanville's steadiness was his chief asset. Sheppard led 2-1 in the third, then the score stood at 2 all, and was even again at 5 all. Winning each other's services, they were level again twice, 6 all and 7 all. Sheppard made a few mistakes at the critical moment, while his opponent remained steady, although running from side to side of the court. Sheppard gave ft chop shot for the last ball, and Glanville just got it over, winning game, set, and match.
