MAYOR AND CITIZENS' ASSOCIATION.

TO THE KDITOK OK THE TRESS. Sir,—On tin; ero of • the tramway election, his Worship tlio Mayor, with a brave certitude, waved the Citizens' Association into oblivion—it did not "count." Last .Monday niglifc he momentarily abjured political Coiieisin, admitted that the Citizens' Association lay 'across his' field of vision, even counted them np to 130 or 131, and then slipped so far from Mayoral decorum as to declare them "contemptible." A biave. word, indeed, but not strictly according to tho Marquis of Queensijerrv. However, it is pleasins; to know that our worthy Mayor still retains some of his old form; it is far too long sinco ho damned the ratepayers. Damned, too, they will undoubtedly bo under our Labour jurisdiction, though not permanently,, and. meantime, it is good to know that tho Mayor has discovered a political itcn upon'his body politic, has refused to • recognise it, has had .to recognise it, has indeed found it "contemptible." It is too nluch to hopo that ne will, with "that'"perfect "savoir faire" of his, yet damn the Citizens' Association? Surely tho best is yet to be.—Yours, etc., cms. December Bth, 1927.
