MR AMBRY.
ENJOYING ALPINE SPORT. (OPSCUI. TO THE P&KB3.) TIMARU, December 7. Mr L. S. Amery is now at the Malte Brun hut, Mount Cook, where conditions are excellent for ski-ing. The ascent of Mount Cook has practically been abandoned owing to rough weather. It is doubtful if the climb over to the West Coast will be attempted, as the weather has been unfavourable, and it is thought that in any case the Graham Saddle will be impassable. There is a possibility that the climb may be made by way of Copland's Pass.
Mrs Amery, Miss Rona Allen, and Mr J. Hislop, Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, will leave the Hermitage to-morrow, joining the special train at Fnirlie and leaving for the north, via Timaru. The special train will be coupled on to the north express.
