AUCTIONS. H. MATSON AND CO. H. MATSON AND CO. REPORT ON ADDINGTON MARKET AS FOLLOWS:— STORE SHEEP. The market was a very small one, and with the exception of one or two pens of en-ei and lambs the entry comprised wethers. The attendance was small, but contained a fair percentage of those who were anxious to buy sheep, and the greater portion of them were more inclined to let thoir feed waste than make purchases. And there was really nothing in the entry of outstanding quality that could merit extreme prices. Amongst the sales we quote a line of aged ewes in the wool and Border cross lambs, which gold at 23s 4d all counted. Ewes in the wool with very mediocre lambs sold at £1 Os 10d, and a lino of old ewes, with very unattractive lambs at foot, made 16s fid. One line of wethers in tho wool were withdrawn at 335. Wethers from four-tooth to rising eight-tooth, shorn, according to condition, sold from 21s to 22s Id. two-tooth shorn wethors with a few fonr-tooths amongst them, attractive, nnd well-bred, sold anywhere from 22s 8d to 23s 3d. A small straight line of two-tooth wethers, one brand and one earmark, sold from £1 Os 7d, and another small draft from the samo locality but from a different owner, at 235; one pen of comeback, four, six, and eight-tooth wethers sold at 19s 9d. Prices generally were linn at recent rates. _ FOR BERT RESULTS CONSIGN YOUR STOCK TO H. MATSON and CO., ADDINGTON. H. MATSON and CO. REPORT. I'AT LAMBS. The entry in this section to-day comprised 609, of which H. Watson and Co.'s catalogue comprised 3 80. In reviewing the market as a whole we consider that prices were on a par with the previous sale. As is usual in u sensitive market, it opened a shade weaker than the previous week, but as the sale proceeded prices hardened, and closed firm at last week's rates. The quality was hardly tip to last week's standard, yet throughout the market there w.ero one or two exceptionally attractive consignments. Best heavy lambs made from 30» to 33s 9d, medium 27s lOd to 29s 7d, light and unfinished 25s 4d to 26s lOd. H. MATSON and CO.'S PRINCIPAL SALES WERE AS FOLLOWS: —On account of Mr F. W. CO., ADDINGTON. H. MATSON and CO. REPORT. FAT SHEEP. Wo estimate that there were 4000 sheep penned in the fat sheep „ department, and lor the most part there was an unattractive catalogue. Numerous of the shipped consignments were smoke-begrimed and travelstained, and tho desire of vendors to have the sheep in the fat pens was responsible for numerous small consignments of unfinished wethers, with mixed qualities of pelts. In our opinion the market was no better than the previous week, and owing to the numerous small lots of old fat ewes, and the unfinished light or plain nondescript lots that were penned, the best of the entry commanded last week's prices, but lighter and inferior sorts, in our opinion, were easier. Amongst the consignments offered there was an exceptionally nice line of ewes shorn, from Pigeon Bay, and these Bold from 30s up to 89s lOd; they were six-tooth Rom- i jiey ewes, mostly maidens, and they were the | finished article. A small consignment of j attractive ewes from little River, shorn, sold I from 24s 8d to 28s lOd; a Port Levy consign- 1 ment of ewes sold from 35s 9d to 37s Id; a few nice ewes, shorn, from Methven, handy butchers' weights, sold from.23s 4d to 24s Bd. The entry was quite big enough for the competition. There was a line of North Island wethers; six pens of them sold from 38s lOd to 42s 4d. Nearly the whole e'ntry practically were shorn sheep. Of the woollies heavy-weight ewes in the wool were sold up to 435, and wethers in the wool up to 435. "We quote as follows: Shorn Wethers. Shorn Ewes. There was a total entry of 570 head forward to-day, as against 040 last week. Matson and Co.'s entry was 125. The biggest proportion of the yarding was made up of cow beef which sold at slightly lower rates than last week, except for exceptionally choice light cows and heifers, which maintained late rates. Big heavy cattle, both cows and steers, were somewhat easier, and prices (or these were about 80s to £2 per head lower. Choice primo medium-weight steers were in the minority, and sold well on a par with late sales. Prices per 1001b were: Heavy steer beef 92i to 84s, medium steer beef 34b to 37s fid, prime handy weight 80s to 41s, heavy cows 24s to 255, medium 28s to 80s, best young choice 29s to 88s, best light good quality heifers 32s to 85s, medium 29s to 80s. MATSON and CO. ADDINGTON. H. MATSON AND CO. REPORT. CALVES. The total entry comprised 259, of which H. Matson and Co.'s catalogue comprised 121. The entry being smaller, it was anticipated that the market would be firmer, but such failed to materialise, and last week's prices were barely maintained. In ono or t.wo cases, slight advances on the previous week were recorded where extra good exhibits were on offer, but for the most part the sale was irregular and prices were easier, especially in respect to large unfinished sorts. The number of calves coming into Addington and being killed weekly should be recorded by the grazier, ' and .to supply enough cattle in future to hold the pastures of Canterbury will be hard to do, and It behoves every grazier to hold over a few heat) of cattle of bis own instead of depending on the haphazard method of being able to acquire them in the spring or the autumn as he wants them. Values were:—Small calves 18s to 235, medium calves 25s to 38s, good calves 35s to 435, best calves 45s to 555, medium runners £8 to £3 12s fid, good runners £3 15s to £4 10s, best runners to £6 10s. The demand for both classes was limited, and there was no improvomont on last woek's prices. Values were:— Choppers 25s to £3; light baconers £2 10s to £3; heavy baconers £3 3a to £3 15s fid. Average, 6d to fld. Light pork 33b to 395; heavy pork 45s to C4s. Average 6d to 7|d. STORE PIGS. There was a medium yarding of store pigs. The market again showed a marked decline on last week's prices, weaners particularly being much easier. The sale towards the closing stages was very dragging, and lots Were hard to quit. Values were: Medium weaners 6s to 12s; good weaners 16s to 17s fid; slips 15s to 18s; medium stores 19s to 245; large stores 25s to 435. FOR BEST RESULTS CONSIGN YOUR STOCK TO H.
