ATHLETICS.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. EXCELLENT SPORT PROMISED. Brilliant running should be seen on Friday and Saturday next on the occasion of the Dominion Amateur Athletic Championships. The majority of the athletic events will be decided at a big meeting on Saturday afternoon at Lancaster Park, while, in the evening, at the Stadium, the cycling championships will be decided. The eagerly-antici-pated mile championship, in which Rose, Savidan, and Gibbons will provide a thrilling struggle, also takes place at the Stadium in the evening. Never before has such a great array of athletic talent gathered together lor a championship meeting. Practically all the provincial champions will be seen in action. The sprints have drawn classic fields, and Leadbetter (Canterbury), Jenkins, and Fleming (Wellington), Elliot (Auckland), Black (Wanganui-Taranaki), and Morgan (Otago) should provide a great contest. The middledistance events have attracted the cream of our runners. C. B. Allan (Wellington), Newton (Wanganui), Nicholl (Canterbury), Olsen and Suckling (Otago), and Watt (Auckland) will struggle for supremacy. Great interest has been aroused in the mile championship, in which Randolph Rose makes his reappearance on Christchurch tracks after his European tour. He will havo strong opposition in Savidan and Gibbons, who should both do under 4.25 at their best. The three miles, on Saturday afternoon, will be one of the most attractive events of tho meeting, and has drawn a splendid field of seven runnein Lander and Ramson, of Wellington, the Dominion has two hurdlers in the first flight worthy successors to Harvy Wilson. At Waneanui on Saturday evening Lander defeated Ramson in 15 4-s—good time for night hurdling. Other hurdlers who should bo prominent are Morgan (OtagoJ Lmversitv champion, and Shirley (Auckland). The quarter hurdles should be a great race between Morgan and Ramson. ■. The walking events hive drawn surprisinglv rood fields, the most notable absentee being O. S.
