KAIKOURA. .Mr T, Harle, of Hapuku, reports that November was exceptionally wet, the rainfall being above the average. ActonAdams. The Public Works Department advised that as no vote had been placed on the Estimates this year, soundings for the Conway bridge on the inland road would not be taken. It was decided to communicate with the Minister for Public Works pointing out the importance of the bridge in this locality. The question of fish transport was held in abeyance. Regret was expressed that representatives were not available to attend the conference of Progress Leagues to be held in Blenheim this week. CHEVIOT. There was a large attendance at tho residence of Mr and Mrs A. Tweedie, Gore Bay, when an entertainment was given by the pupils of the school and assisting artists. The numerous items bv the children reflected great credit on their teacher, Miss E. Willcox, who was responsible for their training for the entertainment. The children s nurabers were as follows: Dance (Sir Roger de Coverley) by the little ones; recitation, David Jackson; dance (Sapors Hornpipe), Henry Walls; song ( Sweet and Low"), schoolgirls; recitation {"My Watch"), Kenneth Hines; drill (Awkward squad), schoolboys; dance (Highland Fling), schoolgirls. The entertainment concluded with a P la y. le * entitled "Fairy Prisoners," m which the various parts were taken by Edna McClintock, Esther Williamson, Douglas McClintofik, Vera McClintock, Henry Walls, and tho smaller pupils. The adults assisting with the programme were: Messrs B. Lawry, G. Struthers, J. Jackson, C. H. Davies, Mrs A. Williamson, and Miss E. Willcox. At tho conclusion a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Miss Willcox for her work in training tho children. LEESTON. With a view to further reducing its liabilities, the Leeston Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club decided at a meeting on Monday evening to hold a Christmas fair. There was a good attendance at the weekly euchre party and dance. The prizes were won by Mrs H. Hoskin and Mr E. H. Rowell. After supper a dance was held, music being supp' by Les Everest. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr C. Bennett and M rs Les Everest. Mrs Bennett was M.C.
