CHRISTCHURCH STOCK EXCHANGE.
There was a good turnover on call yesterday most transactions being at slightly advanced pricea. The only section that waa neglected' was the shipping, the strike in Australia no doubt being responsible for the dullness oi the market. In the stock and bond market, sellers were a-rain scarce, none of the 34 per cent, issues being olfered. £IOOO of Christchurch City Council 4J per cent, debentures were sold at £6O, the return at that price being A'o lis 9d per cent. Oamaru Borough Council oi per cent. 1944 debentures were offered at i-iOu 7s 6d. Glaxo CJ per cent. 1946 wero wanted at £9l, but aeliere did not quote. In the banking section, Commercial Banking Company ot Sydney were firmer, and buyers otfered £24 l<b without any sellers bidding Bank of New South Wales were fractionally firmer, five changing hands at £45 2s Bd. and more were wanted, at that price, sellers offering at £45 ss. Bank of Xew Zealand rose slightly to buyers 59s Id, sellers 59s 4d, tho market being firm, and displaving a hardening tendency. Lmon Bank were quoted for old shares, buyers £l4 10s, sellers £l4 13s, the quotw being oil a parity with recent prices. The new shares, first instalment paid, declined a little, and - 20 changed hands at £5 18s. This did not exhaust the market, more being offered at that price, buyers bidding £o 17«. .tor the new fully-paid £l4 2s was offered by buyers without attracting sellers. In tlie miscellaneous investment section, National Insurance of New Zealand, Ltd., had some attention • at slightly firmer prices, 350 at 15s 7d and 200 at 15s 8d were turned ore r, market closing buyers 15s Bd, sellers 15s lOd. One hundred and fifty South British Insurance were bought at 57s 3d, the market closing firm with further buyors at .>7s, no sellers. New Zealand Refrigerating Company were firm'; 200 ot tho 10a paid shares changing hands at Ps 9d. One hundred anu fifty Christchurch Gas Company shares were sold at 24s Sd, an advance of Id on last recorded business. The market is firm, with buyers 24s 7d, sellers 255. New Zealand Brewery Company had salee of 50 at 41s lOd and 50 at 455, being Id and 3d higher than late business on Monday. The closing quotes were buyers 44s 9d, sellers 45h 3d. Wilson Portland Cement entered the buying list at 36s 9d, but sellers declined to offer. The market is firm, and has displayed a distinct hardening tendency recently. Buyers continue to increase their limits for New Zealand Drugs, offering 66s 7d without sellers. One hundred Quill, Morris were sold at 21s 6d, a decline of 3d on last recorded business. Sellers offered further at 22s 6d, no buyers quoting-. Mt. Lyell were firm, and 100 changed hands at 28s 6d, market closing buyers CSs 4d, sellers 28s 6d.
