WELLINGTON, December 5
The Appropriation Bill passed b\ Parliament to-day authorises some heavy writings off from State accounts, including £161,314 in cash and £419,301 in stores unaccounted for or depreciated. The Treasury secures authority to write off £61,371 for securities redeemed out of public moneys as principal irrecoverable from debtors, inis includes the following:—
Fishing industry promotion ... 1 |O3G Housing a'ccouiit ... ••• Mining advances ... ••• Cold storage advances ... 7,500 Fruit preserving industry ... 6,008 General purposes relief ... 4,399 Rangitaiki land drainage ... 15,500 Swamp drainage account ... 5,000
The Lands Department writes off £348,494 for loss on the realisation of securities in connexion with discharged soldier settlement, and £51,930 for arrears of rent. In the same account the State Advances repatriation account writes off £6544 for losses on realisation of securities.
The Railway Department writes off £7717 for cash misappropriated by offenders who have been sentenced.
